Paramore- "The Only Exception" Cover Analysis

The Only Exception Cover Analysis

'The Only Exception' is a love song, and this is reflected by the font of the song title as it is serif style font, meaning that the font is feminine and italic which gives the text a romantic, handwritten feel. The romantic font is contrasted to the font of 'Paramore' as this font is sans serif and simple, this shows that this style song is unconventional for Paramore as they are not known to have slow love songs. Another way in which the audience can tell that 'The Only Exception' is a love song is through the image of an empty locket. Lockets represent love, (especially as this particular locket is pink, which is a colour used to represent love) as they can hold pictures of loved ones, however lockets may also represent secrets as they are personal and need to be opened to find out what is inside and as it is empty it may show that the singer has no secrets to hide from the person she loves. The black background allows the locket and also the text to stand out and therefore draws the audiences eyes to the artists name and the song title, thus attracting customers and making the cover instantly recognisable. This single cover is likely to attract female teenagers as the font is quite mature and feminine, and the pink locket would also attract females as it is stereotypically a female item. It is clear that Paramores target audience is teenagers as the song features conventional teenage issues- love and drama. Also, many of the bands existing fans are teenagers, due to their previous merchandise, and will therefore be interessted in any new work by the band, however, the band are also appealing to a general teenage audience as they have made an unconvtional song for their 'image' and therefore widening their fan base. The single cover is effective because it is simple and therefore the attention can be focused on the only image on the cover and also the font, due to the black background, which makes things stand out and as a conclusion, drawing the attention of the audience.
