At the minute I am trying to decide whether I should change my song choice due to my actor being unavailable at the times that would be convenient to me. Therefore I either need to find a different actor, try and get as much filming done in a certain space of time or I can decide to do an animation instead. All of these options have pros and cons and I will have to weigh up which decision will be best for me.

Here is the Email I sent to Interscope Records asking permission for the use of BoysBoysBoys by Lady GaGa. By sending this email I am obeying copyright laws and not just using the song without letting them know first. Until I recieve a reply email stating that I cannot use the song, I will go ahead with my media project and see whether I will get a reply.

Why Do I Need Copyright Permission?

Now that I have a chosen song I need to let the record company know that I wish to use their song. By letting the record company know, I am reducing the risk of getting in trouble with the record company so I feel that it would be easier to just ask for permission so that they know that I am not making a profit by making the music video and that I am only using the song for my coursework.

Song Choice

As all four of my final songs have the same target audience, I decided to survey 24 people from the target audience, (teenagers) to help me decide which song I should choose for my music video project. The results were as follows:


School Uniforms by The Wombats is represented by the colour orange, it received 5 votes. The feedback was mainly that it was a good song choice and that it was a lively and upbeat song, however it received negative feedback due to the fact that the target audience are teenagers and they didn't want a song that was based around school.

Kiss Me by New Found Glory is represented by the colour purple. It received 3 votes, people thought that this song was sweet and slow but they felt that for my project I should do a song that is more interesting.

That Kiss by The Courteeners is represented by the colour green. It received 7 votes. People thought that this song was an unusual song and that the video for this song could be quite quirky and an interesting choice. This song is not very well known, so a lot of people were intrigued by this song.

BoysBoysBoys by Lady GaGa is represented by the colour blue and it recieved 9 votes. The feedback that I received for this song was that it was modern and 'fresh'. People seemed to like the idea of a random and lively video and a lot of people already like the song as it is quite well known.

The most popular song choice from my target audience was BoysBoysBoys by Lady GaGa and therefore this is the song that I will create a music video for. The next step to my project will be to get in touch with the record company in order that I can obtain copyright permission.

Song Ideas

I have decided to create a video to a song that I personally like, because then I feel that I would be more encouraged to do the song justice and work hard in producing a good video. After much deliberation I have narrowed the song choices down to:


Kiss Me- New Found Glory?

This song has a mixture of beats, with slow verses and a fast chorus, which would allow make to shoot the video in a number of different shots and speeds. For me, this song has no different interpretations and is instead a straightforward, sweet and simple song and I would definitely do a storyline type of video as it is, in my opinion simply about love. The song is not 'mainstream' and therefore I hopefully would be able to obtain permission to use the song, however, the problem that would occur with this song would be a romantic area for me to shoot the video in.

Lady GaGa- BoysBoysBoys?

Personally, I really enjoy this song and I feel that it is important that I enjoy the song that I will create a video to as then I will want to do the song justice by having a good video. This song is a pop song and therefore features the lively element that I was looking for. As the song is quite a fun, modern song I would be able to play around with different mise en scene. If I decided to use this song, I don't think I would have a storyline, but instead I would have a random storyline and it would be more related to the feel of the song and not the song itself.

School Uniforms- The Wombats?

'School Uniforms' by The Wombats is a really lively, upbeat and happy song and so the video would have to be fast paced to fit in with the feel of the song. This song would also be a good film to shoot as it is about falling in love with someone at school and therefore I could film the video in my own school and use our school uniforms which would therefore make props and location easy to film. A problem with this song however is that towards the end of the song the lyrics get very repetitive and I think I may find it difficult to find different things to film for the repetitive section.

That Kiss- The Courteeners?

'That Kiss' by The Courteeners would be a good video to create as it is a song that creates a lot of imagery as the story of the song are very clear as they create a song. Also, the song has a casual, informal feel to it and the video would be very down to earth and regular- no special sets or outfits would be required. The Courteeners are very well known and I feel that getting permission may prove difficult, however, this particular song is not one of their more famous songs. The video for this song would be very specific to the lyrics so that a story would be created.
